The Ville de Montréal has recently created the Design Montréal Phyllis Lambert Grant for young design professionals; applications for 2008 must be submitted before March 3rd. This grant recognizes the talent of a Montréal designer (or design collective) with fewer than 10 years' professional practice and having a marked interest in the city.

With a value of $10,000, the Design Montréal Phyllis Lambert Grant must be used for a professional development project: a study trip, a work internship, participation in a competition, a design workshop or a symposium, etc. It is imperative that this activity take place in one of the cities of the Unesco Creative Cities Network (Aswan, Santa Fe, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Popayan, Edinburgh, Bologna and Seville).

The Ville de Montréal has chosen to dedicate this new grant to Phyllis Lambert to "underscore her contribution to the international reputation of Montréal as well as the influence she has had on the quality of urban planning, architecture, heritage and design in the city".

The application form is available on the Design Montréal office website. A jury comprising well-known representatives in the design community will base their assessments on two criteria: quality of the application and interest in the proposed project. The winner will be announced in June.
