You'd be hard pressed to find a more durable design than a tattoo; that's why As Long as it Lasts, a pop-up tattoo parlour, is offering a series of tattoos created by famous designers for Design Miami.
Orchestrated by Tobias Wong, Aric Chen and Montrealer Josée Lepage, As Long as it Lasts will offer the services of a professional tattoo artist for only four days. Eight designs commissioned from Vito Acconci/Acconi Studio, Tord Boontje & Andrew Allenson, Juergen Mayer H, Lawrence Weiner, Hella Jongerius, Yves Behar, 5.5 Designers, Kaws will be on offer with only one available as a temporary tattoo.
The offering raises a few questions: What does it mean to have a body signed by a designer? What relationship does this create between designer and public? How far are design aficionados willing to go?
Obviously far enough since as soon as the announcement was made, people were scrambling for a spot so that they could forevermore carry their favourite designer close to their heart? literally.
Those interested in testing their skin-deep love of design can head down to the Loft Building in Miami's Design District on December 7-9.
