Down to the wire

In the fifties, Harry Bertoia was at the top of his game. A few years later, Warren Platner was too. Judging by Milan's latest furniture fair, wire furniture is ready to make a full-force comeback.

It's already been a few years now that British designer Tom Dixon made his collection a household name. Recently added to his Wire series are the Link Easy Chair and the Cage Light. French designer Jean-Marie Massaud does his own high-wire act with his sofa for Spanish Viccarbe and table for Italian Porro. Then there's Arik Levy and his very Warrenesque but colourful design for Zanotta. Also noticed, and again colourful, is the Alberto Colzani chair for Baleri.

The maker of Foscarini lamps made a major splash with his new line, a series of sculptural lampshades that leave line shadows on the walls.

While the young Nordics of the Kokoomo Finland collective made their mark at the Satellite show with many wire items. And finally, Belgian Nathalie Dewez gave us a personal, poetic, and wiry, version of a chandelier.
